Alpenglow, caused by the setting sun passing obliquely through
the atmosphere, sets Denali and the Alaska Range Mountains ablaze.
Those fortunate enough to enjoy the sunset North of the Alaska
Range, under the proper conditions, may witness the interesting
phenomenon of alpenglow on Denali. Near sunset, the rays of the
sun pass through more of the atmosphere, and depending on the
quantity of moisture or dust, produce a reddish-pink glow. Even
after sunset, the refraction (bending) of the light rays by the
atmosphere gives Denali a faint glow. |
